Rett Syndrome Research could use a little help!

23 Jul

When I was in high school, I had a dear friend named Avory.  We spent hours upon hours together, and along with being an awesome friend, she also has an awesome family!  Avory has a sweet little sister, Ariel who happens to have Rett Syndrome.  Rett syndrome is a genetic disorder and little girls that have it don’t show any signs until between 6-18 months old.   A seemingly healthy, developmentally on target girl becomes slow or stagnant in her development and then starts regressing.  A girl with Rett Syndrome loses her ability to communicate as well as all purposeful movement of her hands.  Other issues like breathing problems and seizures can accompany the syndrome as well. According to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, a girl with Rett Syndrome is born every two hours!

While this syndrome is detrimental to the lives of our little girls, it seems that with good research a cure is possible!  Currently, the International Rett Syndrome Foundation is in the running for a Pepsi Refresh project grant.  $250,000 could help a lot of little girls, and many little girls to come.  Please, please click the link below, quickly register, and vote for Rett Syndrome research.  This is a cause that is very important to me, and I hope you will consider checking it out.
