From orthodox to Orthodox?

11 Jul

This has been a difficult year spiritually for our family. With the retirement of Bishop Ackerman, the departure of our diocese from the Episcopal church, and the happenings in both the Episcopal Church and the worldwide communion came quite a lot of pain, confusion, and uncertainty.  Both Matthew and I have done a lot of thinking, searching, reading and praying individually and as a couple and have decided to explore the Greek branch of the Orthodox Church.

This may come as quite a surprise to some of you.  We haven’t discussed it with many of our friends or family, as we wanted to be sure that we were not being reactionary or emotional in our decision.  This will most likely turn out to be the biggest decision of our lives if we decide to convert, and we are certainly not taking it lightly. This could mean another move, another seminary, another new beginning.

We covet your prayers and ask that if you have questions, comments, or concerns about our search, please let us know. (Mom, I’ll have a long conversation with you about this soon, I promise!)  We live in a very close community and I know it can be prone to gossip.  Matthew and I do not wish to be discussed but are more than happy to have discussions.

We’ll update you on our new journey as we go.  Right now we’re swimming in books on Orthodoxy, talking with as many Orthodox Christians and clergy as possible, and seeking God’s will for our life and ministries.  As odd as it is to be “seekers” again, we are excited to finally find some spiritual footing.
